Dorset Thatchers Ltd

A TRADITIONAL CRAFT

WELCOME

My name is Tony Cottrell and I am the proprietor of A.G. Cottrell & Son Master Thatchers. I started my apprenticeship in 1972, on Kingston Lacy Estate in Wimborne and also attended thatching college to gain qualifications. Then in 1977, I established my business A.G. Cottrell Master Thatcher, which has now become a family run business.

My son Mark began working for me in 2001 at the age of 19 (although he says he remembers doing many hours of free labour throughout his school holidays). He served a five-year apprenticeship as well as attending thatching college to gain qualifications.

We are one of the oldest established firms in Dorset. We have a good reputation, with the majority of our work coming through recommendation as well as repeat business. We have been privileged enough to work all over Dorset, on many different types and styles of properties as well as historical and new builds.

We are passionate about using local materials, and traditional methods of thatching that have been tried and tested for centuries and passed down through the generations.

A.G Cottrell & Son are proud to be members of The Dorset Master Thatchers Association, Guild of Craftsman and The Dorset Coppice Group.
